LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Night work on the Brightline West high-speed rail project is planned outside of Las Vegas on April 15-16 beginning at 9 p.m. as field investigations continue in the Interstate 15 median.

A schedule released Monday afternoon shows crews will work from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday nights, performing geophysical testing on a three-mile stretch of the median southwest of Sloan. The work is scheduled along the southbound lane #1. Previous schedules have said that short-term closures are possible for the safety of crews doing the work, but no specific closures are listed for this week in Nevada.

Geophysical testing can involve monitoring of seismic activity in soils, helping to identify characteristics of the site where Brightline will be working to lay track for the high-speed train between Las Vegas and the Los Angeles area.

Daytime surveying and geotechnical boring (soil sampling) are scheduled to continue through Thursday, April 18, according to Brightline’s news release. Those operations will be between the Nevada-California line and the southwest edge of the Las Vegas metro area.

Brightline West will be “America’s first true high-speed rail system,” according to the company, which already operates trains between Miami and Orlando.
