Oscar De La Hoya, once a commanding force in the boxing ring, is now preparing to step into the real estate ring. The former champion, known affectionately in the world of sports as The Golden Boy, is planning to make a tidy profit from an opulent house he purchased in Las Vegas two short years prior. An impressive abode that cost him $14.6 million in May 2022, is now being put up for a selling price that promises to garner him a $5 million profit.

This is no ordinary home; a mere look at the dimensions should put any doubts to rest. The house, a spectacular manifestation of De La Hoya’s success, sprawls over 10,460 square feet. With an indoor area of 8,051 square feet, the property boasts an additional 2,409 square feet of grandeur on the outside. This includes five bedrooms and seven bathrooms, and as befits a man of his stature, it comes with a generous eight-car garage.

De La Hoya’s consistent elan in the ring is legendary. Over the years, facing opponents in six different weight categories, he accumulated 11 world titles under his belt, only to top it all with a gold medal at the 1992 Olympics. A Forbes report quantified his career earnings to be around $500 million from a total of 39 wins, 6 losses, and drawing nil, attributing to his present net worth of around $200 million.

Crafted by the Las Vegas-based Builder Blue Heron Homes in 2023, this lavish dwelling stretches across almost an acre on a conical promontory. Located in the MacDonald Highlands, the property is safely encased within a guard-gated community in the neighborhood of Strip-adjacent Henderson, Nevada — a position that allows for breathtaking city, mountain, and the Strip views.

The grand entrance, embellished with a porte-cochère and a serene water body, opens to an expansive living area and a gourmet kitchen, as well as a separate butler’s kitchen. Not one to compromise on luxuries, the Golden Boy’s estate also includes a temperature-controlled wine room and an al fresco living room with a cozy fire pit.

To placate those hard-to-please guests, the house comes with its own golf simulator, an entertainment area, a home theater, a private gym, a hair salon and a wet bar. Outdoors, there are several swimming pools and dining spaces, all fitted out with televisions.

De La Hoya formally exited the boxing ring in 2009 and seamlessly transitioned to his second career – a boxing promoter akin to his one-time rival, Floyd Mayweather. His Golden Boy Productions facilitated the eagerly-awaited rematch between middleweight champions Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin at the T-Mobile Arena in 2018.

Mayweather also made a similar real estate move and got himself a 16,357-square-foot mansion in Queensridge, located in the northern part of the Las Vegas Valley, for $10 million in the same year. Ironically, the two former adversaries’ residences are at the greatest distance possible within the Las Vegas Valley – almost 30 miles apart.

As such, the local neighbors were robbed of the chance of catching the two heavyweight sports personalities bumping into each other at the corner Starbucks. Yet, with De La Hoya’s next move being anybody’s guess, it’s a waiting game for all.
